The Sunday Cook

Most meal prep fails for the same reason. People cook five identical meals on Sunday, line up five identical containers, and by Wednesday they would rather eat drywall.

Professional kitchens do not work that way. We do not build finished plates in advance. We build components, and then plates get assembled from them in seconds. That is what you want at home too.

Here is the two hour version.

Work in the Right Order

The order is the whole skill. Start whatever takes longest and needs the least attention, then fill the waiting time.

Grain on first. Roasting vegetables in the oven second. Then the things that need hands: washing greens, making dressing, prepping fruit. Nothing sits idle, including you.

The Five Components

1. A big pot of quinoa. Rinse until the water runs clear, then cook it. Make more than you think you need. It is dinner under a stir fry on Monday, it is porridge on Wednesday, and it will hold four days sealed in the fridge.

2. A tray of roasted vegetables. Whatever looked good and is cheap this week. Cut everything roughly the same size, oil, sea salt, hot oven, do not crowd the pan. Crowding is why home roasted vegetables come out steamed and grey.

3. Washed and dried greens. Wash them Sunday, dry them properly, store them with a paper towel in the container. Wet greens rot by Tuesday and dry greens last the week. This is the single highest return ten minutes in the whole session.

4. One real dressing. In a jar. Oil, acid, sea salt, something aromatic. Homemade dressing is the difference between a salad you eat and a salad you resent.

5. Sea moss gel, and ginger cubes. Gel in a jar in the fridge, ready to fold into anything warm. Blended ginger frozen into cubes for tea and elixirs. Irish Sea Moss is what I keep on hand for this.

What the Week Looks Like Afterward

Monday, quinoa with roasted vegetables and dressing. Tuesday, greens salad with dressing, fruit on the side. Wednesday, quinoa porridge with sea moss folded in, which is the two minute mineral bowl. Thursday, everything left thrown into a soup.

Same five components. Four different meals. Nobody got bored, and no evening required real cooking.

The Parts That Are Not Food

Two things I do in the same session because they are the ones that fail first when the week gets hard.

Set the counter for the morning. Tea within reach, Cell Support where I will see it, glass by the sink. My mornings are hydration and minerals before anything else, and that whole system is in the easiest way to get all your daily minerals. Making it a two-second decision on Monday morning is Sunday work.

Set the evening. Gut Support where I will actually take it in the evening, and a plan for dinner that means the kitchen can close by 7 without a scramble.

Do Not Over-Prep

The most common mistake after the identical containers problem is doing too much on Sunday, hating the whole day, and never doing it again.

Two hours. Five components. If you only get the quinoa and the greens done, that is still a better week than no prep at all. This is supposed to buy back your weeknights, not eat your weekend.

Try It This Sunday

Quinoa on the stove. Vegetables in the oven. Greens washed and dried. Dressing in a jar. Gel in the fridge.

Then look at how Tuesday night goes when there is nothing to decide.

For the plate side of things generally, the free Nutritional Guide covers which foods are earning their spot, and the Morning Ritual Bundle handles the part of the day that Sunday prep cannot reach.

FAQ

How long does meal prep take?
About two hours if you work in the right order, with most of that being hands-off while things cook.

Why does meal prep always fail?
Because people build five identical finished meals and get sick of them by midweek. Prepping components instead lets you build something different every day from the same work.

How long does cooked quinoa last in the fridge?
Comfortably four days in a sealed container, which covers Monday through Thursday.

What should I prep first?
Start whatever takes longest and is hands-off, then work on the things that need attention while it runs.
